Pickleball vs padel for venue owners: compare court size, build cost in India, earnings and which courts to build first, with diagrams drawn to scale.
Pickleball vs padel comes down to space and money. An outdoor pickleball court costs roughly Rs 3 to 9 lakh and fits in 82 sq m. A padel court costs roughly Rs 11 to 28 lakh and needs 200 sq m plus glass walls. Here is how to pick for your venue.
Pickleball vs padel at a glance

- Pickleball: Padel
- Court size: 6.1 x 13.4 m (20 x 44 ft) · 10 x 20 m
- Floor area: about 82 sq m · about 200 sq m
- Walls: None · Glass and mesh, ball plays off them
- Surface: Acrylic over concrete or asphalt · Turf with sand over a concrete slab
- Build cost per court (2026 quotes): Rs 3 to 9 lakh outdoor · Rs 11 to 28 lakh
- Players: Singles or doubles · Mostly doubles
Padel vs pickleball court size
A padel court is 10 x 20 m. A pickleball court is 6.1 x 13.4 m. That makes padel about 2.4 times bigger.
Padel also needs 6 m of clear height above the court, according to the padel rules on Wikipedia). Check your roof height before you plan an indoor padel court.
Space adds up fast. A tennis court footprint holds four pickleball courts, as our pickleball court size guide shows.
How much does a padel court cost vs pickleball?

Pickleball is cheaper to build. Padel costs about two to four times more, and the gap depends on the spec.
Every price below comes from a court builder, so treat it as a starting point. Prices are per court, from 2026 builder pages unless noted.
Pickleball (outdoor): Rs 3 to 9 lakh. Stark Sports puts a mid-range acrylic court at Rs 4.5 to 6.5 lakh (August 2026). Pace Court lists Rs 5 to 9 lakh for standard acrylic and Rs 10 to 16 lakh for a premium indoor court. Fencing and lights add Rs 1.5 to 3.5 lakh.
Padel: Rs 11 to 28 lakh. Builders disagree a lot. Stark Sports quotes Rs 9 to 14 lakh with Chinese-made glass and frame (July 2026). ChampCourts starts at Rs 11.5 lakh for an Indian-made court and Rs 25 lakh for a European one, before GST and transport. Durosport quotes Rs 18 to 28 lakh for a classic outdoor court, and says the concrete slab is extra (Rs 2 to 5 lakh).
Ask two or three builders for a written, itemised quote. Check whether it includes the slab, drainage, lights, GST and transport.
What can each court earn?
Padel charges more per hour. PadelPark priced its courts at Rs 2,000 an hour in 2024, so check what courts near you charge today.
Pickleball earns on volume. Manish Rao of the Global Pickleball Federation told Man's World India (August 2025) that a court can earn Rs 50,000 to 75,000 a month at 4 to 5 hours of daily use. He also expects break-even in the first year. Treat that as one expert's estimate, not a promise.
Do your own sum. Cost per court divided by realistic monthly bookings tells you more than any headline.
Which one should your venue build?
Build pickleball if you have a spare tennis or badminton court, limited budget or want to start in weeks. TopFlooring says a permanent pickleball court usually takes 2 to 4 weeks. A padel court takes about 4 to 8 weeks with the slab, according to Durosport.
Build padel if you have 200 sq m free, the capital and a city crowd that will pay premium rates. In 2024 The Core counted 80 to 100 padel courts in India, so supply was still small.
This is our read, not a rule. Many venues start with two or three pickleball courts and add padel later once bookings prove demand.
Can one venue run both?
Yes, but they need separate courts. Padel is enclosed, so it cannot easily share a floor with other sports. Pickleball courts can be lined onto an existing hard court.
Fill your courts with tournaments
A new court earns nothing while it sits empty. Tournaments fill it on slow weekends.
List your courts on MyGameGrid for free. There is no commission, and players pay straight into your own UPI. Your calendar syncs if you also take walk-in bookings.
Then run an event of your own from the Host page. Organizers can reserve several courts in one booking for a full-day tournament. Our guide to organising a pickleball tournament in India shows the steps.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is padel more expensive than pickleball?
Yes. Builder quotes put padel at roughly Rs 11 to 28 lakh a court and outdoor pickleball at Rs 3 to 9 lakh. Padel needs glass walls, a steel frame, a concrete slab and sand turf. Pickleball needs a flat base, acrylic paint and a net.
Which needs more space, padel or pickleball?
Padel. A padel court is 10 x 20 m (about 200 sq m). A pickleball court is 6.1 x 13.4 m (about 82 sq m), and four fit on one tennis court footprint.
Is padel or pickleball better for a new venue?
Pickleball suits most new venues because it costs less and opens sooner. Padel suits venues with free space, more capital and a premium audience.
Is padel played in singles?
Padel is mostly played as doubles. The Wikipedia rules page also lists a narrower singles court, though that figure needs a citation.
Pick one, then fill it
Start with the numbers: space, budget and your local crowd. Pickleball is the safer first build. Padel is the bigger bet.
Whichever you pick, list your venue and host your first tournament so the courts are busy from week one.
