Pickleball court size is 20 by 44 feet, but venues need 30 by 60 feet per court. See every dimension, how many courts fit in your space and a setup checklist.
A standard pickleball court is 20 feet wide and 44 feet long (6.10 m by 13.41 m). That is the same size for singles and doubles. If you run a venue, the number that matters more is the space around it: plan at least 30 by 60 feet per court. This guide gives the full pickleball court dimensions and shows how many courts fit in the space you already have.
Pickleball is growing fast in India. The count of courts went from about 200 in early 2024 to more than 1,200 by March 2025, according to Finshots. Venues that set up courts correctly from day one avoid expensive re-marking later.
Pickleball Court Size: The Standard Dimensions
The official pickleball court size is 20 feet by 44 feet, measured to the outside of the lines. It is the same for singles and doubles, and the same on every surface.
- Measure: Feet · Metres
- Court width: 20 ft · 6.10 m
- Court length: 44 ft · 13.41 m
- Non-volley zone (kitchen), each side of the net: 7 ft deep · 2.13 m
- Service area, each of the four: 10 ft by 15 ft · 3.05 m by 4.57 m
- Net height at the sidelines: 36 in · 91.4 cm
- Net height at the centre: 34 in · 86.4 cm
These numbers come from the USA Pickleball rules, the rulebook most Indian events follow. Dimensions checked October 2026.
Pickleball Court Dimensions: Lines, Kitchen and Net

The net splits the court into two halves of 22 feet each. The 7-foot kitchen sits on both sides of the net, and a centre line splits the back 15 feet of each half into two service areas.
When you mark or check a court, measure these four things:
- Outer lines: 20 by 44 feet, corner to corner. Measure both diagonals. Equal diagonals mean the court is square.
- Kitchen line: 7 feet from the net on both sides. This is the line players argue about most, so mark it clearly.
- Centre line: it runs from the kitchen line to the baseline, splitting the service areas.
- Net: 36 inches at the posts and 34 inches in the middle. Portable nets sag, so measure the centre before every session.
How Much Space One Pickleball Court Needs
One pickleball court needs a total playing area of at least 30 by 60 feet (9.14 m by 18.29 m), and 34 by 64 feet (10.36 m by 19.51 m) is the recommended size for competitive play, according to pickleball.com's court guide. The extra space is run-off, so players can chase a wide ball without hitting a wall, fence or the next court.
Plan the run-off before you buy land or book a hall:
- Behind each baseline: 8 feet at the minimum (60 feet minus 44, split in two).
- Beside each sideline: 5 feet at the minimum (30 feet minus 20, split in two).
- Walls, poles and fences: keep them outside the run-off, not inside it.
For indoor halls, ceiling height matters too. Guides range from about 18 feet for casual play to 30 feet or more for tournaments, so ask your hall's engineer or a court supplier before you commit to a number.
How Many Pickleball Courts Fit in Your Space

A standard tennis court area fits four pickleball courts in a 2 by 2 grid. That is about 60 by 120 feet (18.29 m by 36.58 m) in total, with each court getting its own 30 by 60 foot block.
Use this as a quick planning table, based on 30 by 60 foot blocks:
- Courts: Layout · Total area
- 1: single block · 30 by 60 ft (1,800 sq ft)
- 2: two blocks side by side · 60 by 60 ft (3,600 sq ft)
- 4: 2 by 2 grid · 60 by 120 ft (7,200 sq ft)
- 6: 3 by 2 grid · 90 by 120 ft (10,800 sq ft)
With 30 by 60 foot blocks, neighbouring courts are 10 feet apart, which is the minimum spacing most guides give. Players who want a more comfortable game prefer a bit more, so add a few feet if you have it.
Divide your free area by the block size to see how many courts fit. Measure the real area first, because a turf or hall that looks big can lose space to walls, poles and doors.
Converting a Badminton or Tennis Court
A badminton doubles court is 13.4 m by 6.1 m, practically the same footprint as a pickleball court (13.41 m by 6.10 m). That is why so many Indian venues try pickleball in a badminton hall first.
The catch is the net and the lines:
- Net: a badminton net sits at about 5 feet. A pickleball net is 36 inches at the posts, so you need a separate net and posts.
- Lines: badminton lines are in a different place, and the kitchen is not marked. Use removable tape or paint a second colour on a shared surface.
- Run-off: badminton halls often have walls close to the court. Check the 5 foot sideline and 8 foot baseline run-off before you commit.
- Tennis court: one tennis court area fits four pickleball courts. You need four portable nets.
Always run one test session before you invest in permanent lines.
Pickleball Court Setup Checklist for Venues
Walk the space with this list before you open bookings:
- Measure every court, both diagonals and the kitchen line.
- Check the run-off on all four sides and move any bench, pole or bin out of it.
- Test the net height at the posts and the centre.
- Play a rally under the lights in the evening and look for glare and shadows.
- Check the surface for slippery patches, puddles and loose lines after rain.
- Mark each court with a number so players find the right one on arrival.
- Keep a spare net, spare balls and a tape measure at the desk.
Fill Your Courts With Events
Courts that are set up right can earn all week, not only at peak hours. On MyGameGrid, venues list their courts and take bookings, so players find open slots and pay in one place. Our guide on getting more bookings for your turf covers how to fill the quiet hours.
Tournaments are the biggest single booking. In our pickleball tournament guide, 16 doubles teams on 4 courts need a 4-hour booking. Organizers host tournaments on MyGameGrid with registration, UPI fee collection and fixtures, and they need a venue with court sizes they can trust. A venue that publishes its real court count and sizes is the one they book.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is the size of a pickleball court?
20 feet wide by 44 feet long (6.10 m by 13.41 m), the same for singles and doubles. The kitchen is 7 feet deep on each side of the net. Plan at least 30 by 60 feet in total so players have run-off space.
Is a pickleball court the same size as a badminton court?
Almost. A badminton doubles court is 13.4 m by 6.1 m and a pickleball court is 13.41 m by 6.10 m. The nets and lines are different, so you need a lower net and separate court markings.
How many pickleball courts fit on a tennis court?
Four, in a 2 by 2 grid. The total area is about 60 by 120 feet, with each court getting a 30 by 60 foot block. You need four portable nets.
How much space does one pickleball court need?
At least 30 by 60 feet in total, and 34 by 64 feet for competitive play. The court itself is 20 by 44 feet. The rest is run-off around the lines.
What is the kitchen in pickleball?
The non-volley zone, 7 feet deep on each side of the net. Players cannot volley the ball while standing in it. Mark it clearly, because it causes more line calls than any other area.
